Dorothea Mladenova is a researcher of contemporary Japanese society with a particular interest in Cultural Studies, Governmentality Studies and Discourse Analysis.

She obtained her PhD in 2019 from Leipzig University for her project “The Optimized Death of the Entrepreneurial Self: Shūkatsu (終活) in Japan”.

In 2020, she co-edited a volume on the Anti-Olympics movement in Japan. Her current research focuses on the Statue of Peace in Berlin and grassroots memory culture in a post-migrant society.
