Hyungyung Kim is an assistant professor at the College of General Education of Seoul Women’s University. She served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Graduate School of East Asian Studies of Freie Universität Berlin from 2017 to 2019 and as research professor at the Institute of Korean Studies of Freie Universität Berlin from 2020 to 2021, having completed her PhD in Women’s Studies from Ewha Womans University.

Her research interests include feminist cultural studies, media/cultural industry and labor subjectivity, gender/sexual politics of the Korean wave, and memory politics of the postcolonial Cold War regime in East Asia. She is the author of Such a Fearful Love: The Transformation of Love/Relationships since the 1990s in South Korea (2019, Seoul: Banbi) and has co-authored several books.

Her research articles have been published in several journals, including the East Asian Journal of Popular Culture, Asian Journal of Women’s Studies, and the Korean Journal of Communication and Information.
